Well from personal experience I thought video game testers played games at
home and got paid to simply give their review on the game and then get a
paycheck every week in the mail. This isn't the case sadly you have to
actually work because it's a real job and not the dream job everyone makes
it sound.
When you start on your first day it's basically paperwork to get
everything settled. You basically have to sign agreements stating that
everything you do/see while working will remain in the job and that you
will not disclose information to anyone. It's just like any other job you
get a station to work with and you get to meet your coworkers and so
forth. You basically get the hang of the job by day four.
I got the hang of it quite fast you come in and get a project to work on
and have to take notes while playing the game in order to improve the game
or fix problems that occur during your time playing the game. It's a fun
job that's pretty hard to put on paper, but I think you get the idea of
what a game tester actually does.
